About Our Firm
Mike launched ALF on January 1, 2017, after ten years of practicing law in Chicago and Charlotte at some of the cities', and world's, most respected law firms. Jen and Kati joined a short-time later, and have helped build this firm from the ground up.
Our vision was to do things differently. To bring a sense of ease and peace to these difficult family issues. To help clients feel comfortable discussing both their families joys but also their challenges, so that we can help empower families to leave a lasting legacy -- both of wealth, but more importantly, of values.

Initially, our firm practiced almost exclusively in the trust & estate litigation space. We fought for individuals and families concerning wills, trusts, breaches of fiduciary duty, guardianships, end-of-life medical care, and even funeral services. We helped families navigate all kinds of untold drama, from death-bed will changes, to allegations of homicide (playing out in estate-litigation "slayer statute" cases), to surreptitiously dug-up graves.

But in recent years, our focus has shifted. And we've turned our focus to helping families avoid the types of problems that used to be our firm's most lucrative practice area. Because this firm isn't a business, it's a mission. Taking years of experience seeing what can go wrong in end-of-life and post-death scenarios, we now channel that knowledge and practice into helping make things go right.

We do still accept litigation matters, on a very selective basis. And we'd be more than happy to hear about yours. But we're especially excited to help families plan for peace, order, and a lasting legacy through innovative strategies and in-depth estate-planning conversations.
